Advocacy Day - Summary

On Tuesday, October 17th members of DIPAC along with the Canadian Federation of Pensioners (CFP) hosted a breakfast at Queens Park for all MPP's and key influencers on pension policy for the province. The breakfast was followed with a series of one on one meeting with a number of MPP's, Cabinet ministers as well as key policy advisors with members of CFP.

The theme of these meetings was to discuss the Government’s May 19th announcement regarding proposed changes to pension funding. CFP brought forward a win-win proposal whereby the sponsors would enjoy substantial savings, pensions would be fully protected in the event of a company’s default and all at no cost to the taxpayers of Ontario.

The meetings were a success in order to bring more focus to this topic before the government goes ahead with any changes that would bring more risk to members of defined benefit plans in Ontario.
